Castletymon Library

Here at Tallaght Community School we are very fortunate to have such fantastic amenities and facilities on site and in our local area. As well as our swimming pool, Sports Complex, Astro and soccer pitches we are delighted our students and parents have access to the new state-of-the-art Castletymon Library. The library is ideally located just across the road from Tallaght CS and a short walk from Scoil Aonghusa and Scoil Íosa. This is a brilliant hub for all our students and members of the public who can avail of workshops and classes for all ages.

As part of our school Literacy initiative Mrs Sheeran and Ms Allsopp brought all first year students to the library to check out all the wonderful facilities, sign up and become members.

Mrs Sheeran, English teacher at TCS said it was a fun experience for all- The first and second years have visited Castletymon Library over the past two weeks and have greatly enjoyed the experience. It is a lovely welcoming, spacious building with study space and computers available. They have all joined and some have already borrowed books. They were very well looked after by the staff who showed them around and were extremely helpful.

The initiative has been a great success and we look forward to a continuing relationship with the library on our doorstep.’

Our first years also enjoyed their visit- ‘It was nice and new, the staff were really nice showing us around, ‘I enjoyed signing-up and rented out a DVD’, ‘I think it’s a nice quiet space, you could get your homework or study done and rent some really good books out’.

Our Senior students are also benefitting from our local library. Ms Geoghegan’s 5th year History class recently visited- ‘My 5th Year History students visited the new Castletymon Library on the 9th of November. They were given a tour of the new library facilities and were provided with library cards. Some students were able to borrow books for their Research Project on the day, while others ordered from the wide catalogue of books in the public library system.  It's a resource they will most definitely benefit from’.

The new library will be an important feature in the community and will offer services and facilities which include self-service kiosks, a 3D printer, computer and study spaces, free Wi-Fi throughout the building, and printing and photocopying services as well as shelves filled with books, audio books, DVDs and video games.

We will continue to make use of this great facility and further embed our literacy and reading initiatives in our school such as Drop Everything and Read, our Student Literacy Committee, Well-Read Awards and Junior Book Club. It has definitely been a hit with our Junior and Senior students and we look forward to more visits and initiatives between Tallaght CS and our local library at Castletymon.
