This year in TCS, we were lucky enough as 5th years to be offered another subject choice; Leaving Cert PE. It is great that this course is now available to reward students with an aptitude and interest in PE and sports. The course is broken down 50% theory and 50% practical. We learn lots about physiology, performance and nutrition.
The course is very interesting and projects include recording your training and analysing it and building a programme for ourselves to look at self-improvement. In our practical classes we have focused on interval training, badminton and sprints, analysing techniques and form. I have really enjoyed all of these active classes.
I chose PE as I’m really interested in sports outside of school. I’m big into health and fitness so picking this subject was an easy decision for me. This course has also helped me think about career options. I have started thinking about a job like strength and conditioning training or maybe even a PE teacher. We are grateful as a class that we got the chance to do this new subject this year.
