Science Week in TCS

Science Week in TCS

Science Week took place last week from the 9th-13th November. This year things looked a little different in TCS with guest speakers zooming in for workshops with students. These workshops allowed students to learn about different areas of science and got some students thinking about all of the different job opportunities that Science can give you. Here are just some of the interesting experiences available to our students during the week.

Conor Whelan from UCD shared lots of interesting facts with us about the weird and wonderful world of bats.

Dr Colm O' Gorman a physicist from ASML taught us all about how the microchips in our phones are made using powerful lasers 500 times hotter than the surface of the sun.

Dr Dan Ring blew us away with his talk on the Art and Science behind special effects in film.

Classes also logged into some interesting live streaming talks from Science Foundation Ireland. The students were electrified with Mark the science guy and things got all creepy crawly with Marty Jobson and his demonstration of the invisible world.

There was also great excitement with our 2nd year Science Quiz. Congrats to Alannah Grey and Aisling who came joint first.

There was also a Science Week poster Competition. Students were given the task of designing a science themed face mask. Well done to Natalia Lyko was this years winner.

Well done to all who got involved in the activities of Science Week!
