TCS Victorious in FAI Leinster Boys Senior Shield Final

Tallaght Community School produced a clinical display to see off Chanel College 4-1 in the Leinster Senior Boys Shield Final. Wayne Grehan’s side had to battle back from a goal down to complete a successful campaign that also included victories over Collinstown and Oatlands College along the way.

Although it was Tallaght goalkeeper Daniel Butler who was the busier of the two early on, and even his best efforts couldn’t stop Chanel taking the lead 21 minutes in, TCS responded with ruthless efficiency to level the game and on to assert their dominance in this Dublin derby. Sportsperson of the Year and Captain, Adam Burns served up the equaliser when he broke through, latching on to a Ryan Gannon ball into the box and superbly chipped the Chanel net minder.

It was Hamzat Salam who edged TCS in front for the first time before the break when he came in at the back post to turn into a goal a delivery into the box. TCS doubled their lead 12 minutes into the second half when centre half Matthew Toolan superbly despatched a loose ball to the top corner from just inside the box. Salam completed the scoring when he applied the finishing touch to an Adam Burns ball.

Made up mostly of sixth and fifth year students, the squad included a number of transition year players, which augurs well for their prospects next season.
