University Times Newspaper in Trinity

During the week in Trinity we got into the habit of checking the news every morning, we had a few guest speakers talk to us about their career journey in journalism, went on a tour of the Irish Times office and even wrote our own articles.

We were encouraged every morning to read the news and when we went in we discussed and analysed them. Considering the time, the biggest stories were always about coronavirus.

The guest speakers came in to talk about making it in the industry and the different types of journalism. Some TYs in the group wrote articles about every guest speaker. I cowrote and coedited the article for the guest speaker Sinead Farrell.

On our tour of the Irish Times building first we met some experienced people in journalism. They all told us of their stories and their struggles in making it in the industry. We were also asked about our dreams so the TYs got to know each other better too.

It was an enjoyable week. I gained knowledge on the journalism career and made some new friends.
