The Home School Partnership

The relationship between Tallaght Community School and parents is of fundamental importance. So far as is possible Tallaght Community School endeavours to operate an “open door” policy for parents. Formal reports on pupils’ progress are issued twice yearly. Our school also has an internal reporting system and parents are contacted should problems be anticipated or arise. Parent-Teacher meetings give parents the opportunity to meet with all subject teachers.

Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)

The HSCL programme is in place across the country because we recognise that parents are the most important people in their children's lives. The Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) scheme for Tallaght Community School is based on a strong partnership and respect between home, school and the wider community area. It is inclusive of everyone in the school community and works to deliver the best education for all pupils and their families. We aim to maximise participation of children and their parents/guardians in school life and promote awareness in parents of their own capabilities. It is the job of the HSCL to build bonds between the school, the home and the community and to support parents in the education of their children.

Part of my job includes:

  • Visiting parents to offer advice and support if they have a problem relating to their child's education. Maybe they are not attending as often as they should be, are having troubles in their friendship groups or find it difficult getting organised for school.
  • Organising courses and activities for parents. For example, our parent coffee mornings, and course such as cooking, yoga and crafts. All courses and events are free of charge.
  • Sharing information between the school and home that could be helpful to you, the parents.
  • Creating positive relationships between TCS and the families of our students.
